Black Theatre

The Groningen theatre landscape in the past 36 years has been rather conservative with little or no opportunities for African theatre makers and performers like Dr. Nii Ocquaye Hammond. However, Black Theatre is on the rise in the Netherlands. Groningen can boast of a new crop of dramatists and performers who deserve a place on stage to tell our collective stories with their art.

Tales of Tule Tanko

In Tales of Tule Tanko Dr. Nii Ocquaye Hammond, also known as Tule Tanko, depicts the stories of our ancestors. Who are we, Europeans and Africans? Who were our ancestors? How have they influenced our lives? Why are we who we are now? And how do African and Dutch spirituality gain significance? With music, rituals, and transformations, Tule Tanko brings our shared ancestors to life. Musically accompanied by Mamour Seck and Ras Kollinx..
