About Nikki Loef

Nikki Loef is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work resonates with a deep-rooted interest in people and culture, with a particular fondness for social structures that exist on the fringes of the norm. After all, it is here that the most important questions are asked and the most enlightening answers are found. She has a special focus on the vulnerable, marginalized individual. With her work, she aims to challenge the viewer to look at social issues and structures in a different way. She achieves this by actively involving them in the art experience.

Verhalen met zorg

Bureau Ruimtekoers en Nikki Loef

Commissioned by the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum, Bureau Ruimtekoers and artist Nikki Loef developed the participatory artwork Verhalen met Zorg (Stories with Care) creating space for genuine stories about caregiving. In the Netherlands, about five million people provide care, often selflessly and sometimes for extended periods and with great intensity. Bureau Ruimtekoers and Nikki spoke with various caregivers, and five of their stories can be heard in the artwork. The participatory artwork is not just another well-meaning tribute to caregivers, but a place to share sometimes complex and genuine stories.

The installation is designed as a homely studio with a cozy kitchen table. It is a safe place to read, listen to, and share stories. The artwork continually evolves as visitors share their stories with care in clay creations. All these 'care symbols' demonstrate how diverse 'caring for another' can be.
