HIDDEN_Zeerijp

in collaboration with X_YUSUF_BOSS and Mijn Thuis Mijn Verhaal

In the municipality of Eemsdelta, much is decided for young people. More and more facilities are being cut, leaving little to do. The effects of the earthquakes, bureaucracy, and social unrest are causing a crumbling of social cohesion. If you want social contacts as a young person, you quickly take the train to Groningen. In Zeerijp, there is still one place that acts as the social fabric of the village: the football club De Fivel.

X_YUSUF_BOSS

Dance company X_YUSUF_BOSS provides a glimpse into the often hidden forces that keep the football club De Fivel running with HIDDEN_Zeerijp. Through dance and film, the company highlights the indispensable dedication of volunteers and players. This perfectly aligns with the Hidden project, through which X_YUSUF_BOSS makes hidden communities and cultures visible and gives them a platform.

VV de Fivel

Without the enormous passion and dedication of volunteers, there would be no VV de Fivel. The football club undeniably fulfills a social function for Zeerijp and the surrounding villages. Young and old gather weekly along the sidelines and enjoy the friendly atmosphere during the well-known third half. The club runs entirely on volunteers. Bar services, cleaning the locker rooms, marking the field lines—it’s all done by a group of men who always stay committed. At the same time, players from the first team continue to return weekly from the city of Groningen to Zeerijp. They coach youth teams, train themselves in Zeerijp, and play matches.

The volunteers and players are the unsung heroes who make VV de Fivel what it is. Without the personal energy of these individuals, there is no future for the football club in Zeerijp. That would mean the village loses an important social meeting place. And that is exactly why they keep coming back.

Mijn Thuis, Mijn Verhaal

Home is the most important place in our lives: it ensures that you feel good. But what does feeling at home actually mean? Through the creative project Mijn Thuis, Mijn Verhaal (My Home, My Story) the municipality of Eemsdelta allows its residents to discover for themselves what they need to feel at home. Young and old work together for this purpose. The municipality achieves this by using art and culture. In villages, neighborhoods, and communities. This way, connections with each other are reestablished.
